Nagaland Forest Minister visits Green Zone Project

Nagaland Minister for Forest, Ecology, Wildlife, Environment and Border Affairs Y. Patton has paid a visit to Tzula (Dikhu) Green Zone Project (TGZP) and interacted with members of TGZP Management Committee along with Village Councils of Longsa and Ungma under Mokokchiung district.

According to official sources today, Mr. Patton, who was in Mokokchung for celebration of Independence Day visited the site and to gather first hand information on the ambitious project yesterday. During a brief programme, TGZPMC Chairman Tia Longkumer explained the purpose of the formation of the committee and its achievements and activity since its inception till date. Later, short speeches were also delivered by Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung and Conservator of Forest and Chairman Longsa Village Council.


Mr. Patton in his speech expressed happiness on the success of the project and assured all possible help. He also stressed on the importance of conservation and its impact on various aspects. On the request from the committee for appointment of green soldiers, he replied that since creating posts and making appointments was not possible and could not be assured, he suggested that the same be used from the sanctioned amount against the project on a fixed pay for time being. He also said that since this project was the first of its kind in the state, the department would provide all possible necessary assistance for the project. He also assured support in its conservation effort.


Earlier, the Minister upon reaching Mokokchung also visited the site building of the proposed office of Conservator of Forest at Marepkong ward of Mokokchung town, sources said.
