Zanubu Landscape |
Its unique geographical features, composed of primary subtropical Broad-leaf forests at the confluence of Borail and Patkai mountain ranges, characterise the Zanubu Range. The Zanubu range Community Conserved Area is surrounded by seven villages and is home to the Chakachang tribe. The well-known Dzudu Lake has made the area a popular destination for local tourists.
In the 1980s, excessive hunting, logging, and forest fires raised serious concern among the people. It was then that the village councils of the seven villages resolved to protect the resources to halt any further decline of wildlife and its habitat, forming the Zanubu Range Forest Committee (ZRFC) in the year 1990 with representatives from each village
